THE MUSIC WAS SO LOUD it vibrated the floor beneath Aeldian’s feet. He stood to the left of the stage, watching Mozalm prepare to perform her final number for her screaming fans, as Sienna.

Mozalm danced across the stage in utter delight, as she absorbed the intense energy from the crowd of fans that surrounded her.

She returned center stage and stopped, her smiling eyes scanning the filled stadium. Sold out completely, over fifty-thousand excited and unsuspecting fans.

“Alright, alright,” she spoke into the microphone over the thunderous noise of the electrified crowd, “I want to thank you all for coming out tonight.” The crowd erupted in deafening shouts once more. “Are you all ready for “Never Knew What Happened?” she asked as the fans shouted their approval.

Mozalm threw her head back and the lyrics spilled out of her mouth and poured over the crowd. But she had only just begun. Suddenly, Mozalm’s sweet and soft melody transformed into a deep, guttural, monotone. The entire crowd was defenseless as they were swept up in her hypnotic vocals and the fans’ clamor ceased immediately as they all stared blankly ahead, dazed.

The musicians on stage behind Mozalm had stopped playing and were as enthralled in her song as the thousands of fans who were also paralyzed, in the now quiet arena.

Aeldian could feel his anger rising and quickly suppressed it, once again restoring his mental block. He had to be sure he didn’t lose focus long enough to allow Mozalm or any other invading Doppels to detect that he was not one of them. He stood back in the shadows off stage and continued to watch Mozalm’s display.

Finally, she stopped the trance-inducing notes, and lowered her head to look around at the still dazed fans. One by one, the fans regained awareness. They all looked around, confused, as they struggled to make sense of what had happened.

Mozalm then picked up her song where she'd left off before she had begun her hypnotic tune.

The fans stood transfixed, and the eerie stillness of the crowd was in stark contrast to the enthusiastic, excited cheers only moments before.

Mozalm ended her show and bowed gracefully off stage, leaving the newly affected fans behind.

She ran offstage and reached out to embrace Aeldian. Aeldian looked over her shoulder as the mass of people walked out in a dazed fog. They were no longer fully coherent or conscious but in the semi-conscious state that Rezlinians used as a principal tactic in their takeover of foreign nations and worlds. This semi-conscious state allowed Rezlinians to control the actions of those who were affected.

"We had a great night tonight. It appears they are all affected." Mozalm said proudly.

“It has been a very successful night,” Aeldian agreed. He followed her to the dressing area. Orlando walked alongside them, his eyes possessing the blank void of the Affected, as he'd long ago succumbed to Mozalm's hypnotic control.
